Cet ouvrage se propose de répondre à une absence à la fois dans le domaine de l'histoire culturelle de l'Antiquité et des études concernant le Pont-Euxin. Le sujet s'avère ainsi doublement périphérique : d'une part, en raison du peu d'attention accordée à la vie culturelle dans les monographies des différentes régions en général et du Pont en particulier, d'autre part, en raison de la position de ce dernier sur les cartes réelles et symboliques du monde grec. L'un des buts principaux a donc été de « désenclaver » cette région, certes excentrée, du monde grec, afin de marquer son appartenance à l'espace méditerranéen, tout en mettant en évidence ses spécificités. Parmi celles-ci, on note les rapports que les Grecs pontiques entretenaient avec l'Autre - le « barbare » , bien entendu, mais aussi 1'étranger en général, qu il soit Grec du Pont ou d'ailleurs. Pour ce dernier aspect, a été employé le concept de « mobilité culturelle », qui trouvera, espérons-nous, sa place dans les travaux consacrés aux réseaux, de l'époque classique jusqu'à l'époque tardo-antique. La participation des Pontiques à une culture commune a fait en sorte qu ils aient entretenu un hellénisme régional vivant jusqu'à une époque relativement tardive.

This book aims to fill a gap in both fields of cultural history in Antiquity and Black Sea studies. Thus, it focuses its attention on two marginal aspects : on the one hand, on the cultural life, since little attention is generally given to cultural life in monographs on this region, and particularly those concerning the Euxine Pontus ; on the other hand, on the Black Sea région, because its position is geographically and symbolically peripheral in the Greek world. One of the main goals is to put this remote location back into the Mediterranean space and, at the same time, emphasize its peculiarities. We observed the relationship between the Pontic Greeks and the Others - the « barbarian », but also strangers, of Pontic Greek origins or of more removed ones. On this latter aspect, the book promotes the concept of « cultural mobility », which might found its place among network studies, from the Classical era until Late Antiquity. Pontics shared a common culture which is a vivid example of régional Hellenism.
