De la Grèce de ses débuts à la Gaule en passant par Chypre et Amathonte, les recherches de Pierre Aupert ont embrassé des aires géographiques et des périodes chronologiques très variées. Esprit curieux, tout aussi intéressé par l'architecture que par l'épigraphie ou la numismatique, il n'a eu de cesse, comme membre de l'École française d'Athènes ou comme Directeur de recherches au CNRS rattaché à l'Institut de Recherche sur l'Architecture Antique (IRAA), d'explorer les différentes facettes des mondes anciens.

C'est à un voyage aux multiples reflets de civilisations antiques que nous convient les quarante auteurs internationaux qui ont participé à ce volume de mélanges. Au travers de trois thèmes - la Grèce, Chypre et l'Orient, l'Italie et les provinces occidentales -, ils poursuivent le chemin tracé par Pierre Aupert tout au long de sa carrière.

From Greece to Gaul, via Cyprus and Amathus, the work of Pierre Aupert has ranged widely in both geographical and chronological terms. His breadth of vision, demonstrated by his interest in architecture, epigraphy and numismatics, whether as a member of the French School in Athens, as a Director of Research in the CNRS, linked to the Institute for Research in Ancient Architecture, has led him to explore many different aspects of ancient societies.

The forty participants who have contributed to this volume in his honour invite the reader on a voyage through many facets of ancient civilisation. Concentrating on three themes, Greece, Cyprus and the Orient and Italy and its western provinces, they follow the paths marked out by Pierre Aupert throughout his career.
