L'importance d?effectuer des analyses physico-chimiques dans l'étude des décorations murales anciennes n'est plus à démontrer. Beaucoup a déjà été dit sur les apports de l?archéométrie à l?identification des pigments et la caractérisation des mortiers de préparation, mais nous manquons d?une réflexion plus globale à l'échelle territoriale et diachronique sur les techniques d?exécution des peintures murales. Ce volume, qui recueille les actes du colloque éponyme tenu à Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgique) le 21 avril 2017, a pour but de comparer les différentes réalités locales de l'Italie romaine (Rome, Ostie, Pompéi, Herculanum, Aquilée, Cottanello) et des provinces (Gaules, Bétique, Pannonie, Asie Mineure), en utilisant "l'approche technique" pour répondre à certaines questions : y a-t-il des constantes ou des transformations dans la technique d?exécution des peintures murales au fil du temps ? Existe- t-il des caractéristiques spécifiques d'une zone ou d'une période particulière ? Comment travaillaient les peintres de l?Antiquité ?

The importance of performing physico-chemical analyzes in the study of old wall decorations is well established. Much has already been said about the contributions of archaeometry to the identification of pigments and the characterization of preparation mortars, but we lack a more global reflection, on the territorial and diachronic scale, concerning the techniques of ancient wall painting. This volume, which collects the proceedings of the eponymous conference held in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) on April 21, 2017, aims to compare various local realities of Roman Italy (Rome, Ostia, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Aquileia, Cottanello) and provinces (Gaul, Betic, Pannonia, Asia Minor), using the "technical approach" to answer certain questions: are there constants or transformations in the technique of execution of the wall paintings over time ? Are there specific characteristics of a particular area or period? How did the painters of Antiquity work?
