Der ‚Taxiarchis-Hügel? in Didyma liegt etwa 200 m nordwestlich des Apollon-Tempels und ist Fundort eines weitgehend ungestörten Befundes von Relikten aus einem archaischen Heiligtum, bei denen es sich mehrheitlich um Weihgaben handelt. Diese wurden hier in verschiedenen Phasen der archaischen Epoche abgelagert und traten besonders konzentriert in einer kompakten Brandschicht auf, die mit der Perserzerstörung verbunden werden kann. Dieser Heiligtumsbefund, der Gegenstand der dreibändigen Publikation ist, umfasst zahlreiche Fundobjekte verschiedenster Gattungen von hoher Qualität. Auch wenn eindeutige Indizien für die Identifikation seines ursprünglichen Verwendungskontextes fehlen, deutet das Fundspektrum auf eine weibliche Gottheit als Empfängerin hin. So eröffnet der Heiligtumsbefund vom ‚Taxiarchis-Hügel? eine neue Perspektive auf die Kulttopographie des Gesamtheiligtumes, ist aber auch für unsere Kenntnisse des archaischen Votivwesens Didymas von großer Relevanz, da es sich hier um den ersten ungestörten Befund dieser Art handelt. Im vorliegenden ersten Band wird die archaische Stratigraphie präsentiert, da sie Grundlage nicht nur der zeitlichen Einordnung der Fundobjekte, sondern auch der Interpretation des Gesamtbefundes ist. Überdies werden bereits in diesem Teilband die Befunde und Funde vorgelegt, die von der nacharchaischen Nutzung des ‚Taxiarchis-Hügels? zeugen, um zu klären, inwieweit diese Aufschluss über seine Funktion zu geben vermögen. Zudem wird der Versuch unternommen, die Lage und Genese des Fundplatzes im Kontext der Topographie und funktionalen Gesamtstruktur von Didyma zu rekonstruieren.
