Il volume è soprattutto volto a fornire una pubblicazione preliminare del vasto patrimonio di architettura portato alla luce dagli scavi italiani condotti negli anni dell?occupazione. La pubblicazione è stata resa possibile dal reperimento di una ricca documentazione d?epoca, soprattutto grafica e fotografica, raccolta nei principali archivi del Dodecaneso, oltre alle cospicue donazioni pervenute alla Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene da parte degli eredi dei funzionari italiani impegnati in quelle aree. L?Autore, oltre ad aver curato l?intera edizione insieme con Giorgio Rocco, fornisce una serie di contributi soprattutto volti a fornire una pubblicazione preliminare di importanti edifici antichi inediti e a dare conto di alcuni interventi di restauro, condotti in quegli anni, di strutture antiche e medievali. Inoltre, l?Autore ha curato la sistemazione e la pubblicazione dell?appendice documentaria, selezionando negli archivi di Rodi e della Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene i documenti più significativi per la storia del contributo italiano alle ricerche archeologiche, al restauro e alla progettazione nelle isole del Dodecaneso.
