Sagalassos : eine Römische Stadt in der Südwesttürkei

In einer Höhe von 1.500 m, am Rande des Taurus-Gebirges, 120 km von Antalya entfernt gelegen, ist sie eine der schönsten antiken Metropolen - Sagalassos. Gefördert von den römischen Machthabern - insbesondere von Kaiser Hadrian -, erlebte die Stadt eine urbane Blüte, die noch heute vor Ort in monumentalen Bauresten, Skulpturen und Inschriften erkennbar ist. Sagalassos kann zu Recht in einem Atemzuge mit Pergamon, Ephesos oder Aphrodisias genannt werden. Reiche Funde aus allen Bereichen des urbanen Lebens, wie Säulenstrassen, Plätze, Theater und Tempel, werden hier erstmals präsentiert. Dabei wird die komplette kulturelle, architektonische und künstlerische Entwicklung einer römischen Metropole nachgezeichnet, eingebettet in die politischen Verhältnisse der Zeit.
