The third volume of the History of Humanity deals with events and periods between 700BC and 70AD and new cultural, social and political structures which announced or opened new paths in history. There were many turning points, such as the general introduction of new technologies in the use of iron, irrigation, or new forms of urbanization. In China, India, the Mediterranean, in Central America and in parts of South America the so-called Classical cultures rose. There was also the rise of universal religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and, in the 7th century, Islam. These universal religions opened new ways of human communication and led to the formation of extended cultural areas. This volume is divided into two main sections. The first is thematic, covering the trends and developments that characterize the period covered. The second is geographical, studying the progress of peoples around the world.
